Barbara Ging Gray, J.D. is the Director of Educator Programs at the Thomas R. Brown Foundation, and an instructor in the programs. Barbara taught AP Microeconomics and AP Macroeconomics for 12 years at University High School in Tucson. Ms. Gray has a BA in secondary education, a juris doctorate degree, and an administrative certificate in Educational Leadership. She is also a College Board AP Grader in Economics. During her tenure at University High, Barbara was the recipient of the U.S. Presidential Scholar Educator Award by the U.S. Department of Education, the University of Arizona Eller College Polaris (Outstanding High School) Teaching Award, the University of Arizona “Arizona Cup” Teaching Award, and two Flinn Foundation Outstanding Educator Awards. She is also a member of the Arizona Bar.

Gerald Swanson, Ph.D. is Professor Emeritus of Economics, Eller College, University of Arizona. After earning his Ph.D in Economics from the University of Illinois, Professor Swanson went on to be nationally and internationally recognized as an expert in the teaching of economics. He has taught numerous specialized workshops in the United States and abroad, and is the recipient of numerous teaching awards. He is past executive director of the Arizona Council on Economic Education and past president of the Academy of Economic Education. Swanson is known for his research and analysis on hyperinflation in South America and Europe. He is the author of numerous essays on economic issues, as well as of scripts for the National Public Television series The Economic Exchange, and is author of the books Bankruptcy 1995 and America the Broke. At the University of Arizona he held the Thomas R. Brown Distinguished Chair of Economic Education, which, following his retirement, became the Gerald J. Swanson Chair in Economics Education.

Price Fishback, Ph.D. is the Thomas R. Brown Professor of Economics at the University of Arizona and a research associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research. Dr. Fishback received his doctorate in economics at the University of Washington in 1983. After teaching at the University of Georgia and the University of Texas in the 1980s, he moved to the University of Arizona in 1990.He currently serves as Executive Director of the Economic History Association.  Price has served as co-editor of The Journal of Economic History, has been a Trustee of the Economic History Association and was one of the organizers of the Cliometrics Conference on economic history between 1996 and 2008. His co-authored books published by the University of Chicago Press include Well Worth Saving:  The Home Owner’s Loan Corporations Home Loan Purchase and Refinance Program (2013), Government and the American Economy: A New History (2007) and A Prelude to the Welfare State: The Origins of Workers’ Compensation (2000). He published Soft Coal, Hard Choices:  The Economic Welfare of Bituminous Coal Miners, 1890-1930 with Oxford University Press in 1992.  Price has won several teaching awards in the Eller College MBA programs and he has helped supervise more than 80 Ph.D dissertations.  He has conducted research on a variety of additional topics, including Roosevelt’s New Deal, the economy in World War II, housing markets, labor market discrimination, segregated schools, workplace safety regulation, workers’ compensation, and violence in strikes.

Amy S. Cramer, Ph.D. is the Founder and President of Voices On The Economy, Inc., as well as a full-time Economics Instructor and Department Chair at Pima Community College. She received her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Massachusetts.
Professor Cramer specializes in Economics Education, with an emphasis on presenting alternative perspectives of public policy issues. Before joining Pima Community College, Professor Cramer had extensive experience teaching at four-year colleges and universities, including Trinity College, Clark University, Brandeis University, and the University of Arizona, as well at as at middle schools and high schools in Arizona and Massachusetts.

Steven Reff, M.A. is a lecturer for the Economics Department at the University of Arizona where he teaches introductory economics to large sections.  Prior to his current position, he taught economics for 30 years in Tucson Unified School District, including 27 years teaching AP Microeconomics and 25 years teaching AP Macroeconomics.  He served a four-year term on the AP Economics Test Development Committee for Educational Testing Services and is a consultant for The College Board, traveling the world instructing teachers on how to teach AP Economics.  He has written an interactive Internet economics textbook, and with a co-author has published a workbook Fundamental Models in Economics.  He has won numerous awards for teaching, both at high school and college levels, including: U.S. Presidential Scholars Educator Award by the U.S. Department of Education, 2001; Eller Undergraduate Faculty Member of the Year (Large Class), and; The Eller College Dean’s Award for Undergraduate Teaching Excellence (2008 and 2013).

John S. Morton, M.A. is Senior Program Officer for the Arizona Council on Economic Education. “Mort” was an economics teacher at Homewood-Flossmoor High School (Illinois), founder and director of the Governors State University Center for Economic Education (Illinois), founder and president of the Arizona Council on Economic Education, and vice president for program development for the National Council on Economic Education.  He chaired the advisory board of The Wall Street Journal Classroom Edition for 10 years.  He has written over 60 publications and books of instructional activities for the high school economics course, including four widely used textbooks. He has received awards for teaching economics, including the Bessie Moore Service Award and the John C. Schramm Leadership Award from the Council for Economic Education and the National Association of Economic Educators, the Freedoms Foundation Leavey Award for Excellence in Private Enterprise Education, and the Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship and Free Enterprise Education from the Foundation of the National Federation of Independent Businesses. He earned a BS from Miami University (Ohio), MA from the University of Illinois, and did post-MA work at the University of Chicago.

Virginia Stanek, M.A. was a business education and honors economics teacher at Sunnyside High School.  She now works as a substitute teacher and property manager of her own business.  Virginia earned a Masters in Economics Education and Entrepreneurship at the University of Delaware. Under the auspices of the Thomas R. Brown Foundation and the Arizona Council on Economic Education, she has facilitated the Economics Book Club for Teachers in Tucson since 2007.  She is a member of the Arizona Society of Economics Teachers (ASET).
